thermWith the continuing controversy and debate surrounding “Mammogate” here is an interesting alternative that can spot breast cancer years before mammograms and is much safer. Thermography can detect disease and injury by revealing the thermal abnormalities present in the body. Can assess pain and pathology anywhere on the body and is very helpful in monitoring therapy. No radiation - 100% safe for everyone Non-invasive, no injections. Offers privacy - no bodily contact. Thermography is cost effective, risk-free and provides instant images through digital technology. A device developed for Cold War spying might help women detect breast cancer four to six years before it appears on a mammogram. Shelley Gilliland, a certified clinical thermographer for Radiant Health Imaging, uses digital infrared thermal imaging to detect and monitor a number of diseases and physical injuries, including breast cancer.

“It works by showing the thermal abnormalities present in the body,” Gilliland said. “In a single click of my camera, I take over 80,000 temperature readings of the body.

“While not all abnormalities are cancer, all cancers start as an abnormality.”

Medical digital infrared thermal imaging is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that pictures and analyzes changes in the skin’s surface temperature without the use of radiation. While X-rays, ultrasound, and mammography show the structure of the body, thermal imaging shows the physiological activity, such as active inflammation and increased blood supply found in many illnesses.

Gilliland said more than 50 percent of her business is from women seeking an earlier form of detection than a mammogram can offer.

“It is radiation free and there is no contact with the body,” she added. “There is no squashing or compression.”

A scanning device – think an advanced digital camera – is used to convert infrared imaging from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are shown in color on a monitor.

The visual image maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of colors indicates an increase or decrease in the amount of heat being emitted from the body surface.

Gilliland said since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature differences are easily identified, and because infrared thermal imaging is highly sensitive to variations in the vascular, muscular, neural, and skeletal systems, it can contribute invaluable information to a diagnosis made by a physician.

The images are then checked by a group of more than 30 doctors for abnormal vascular activity.

“Initially, we take a baseline image. After 90 days, a second image is taken and compared to the first,” Gilliland said. “The doctors look for changes over time.”

Like fingerprints, Gilliland said without a pathological change or injury, the images should stay the same.

In order for a mammogram to detect a breast cancer tumor, Gilliland said the tumor is between six and eight years old and has over a billion cells. However, a thermogram can detect the heat given off by cancer cells multiplying at two years, or 256 cells, before it is even a lump.

“This can give a woman four to six years to get healthier with life style changes and monitor the area,” she said. “In a nutshell it is earlier detection and screening or well care versus sick care.”

Plus a thermogram can be used to help doctors monitor how well radiation treatment is working on a specific tumor, which could mean the difference between a partial lumpectomy and a mastectomy.

Gilliland became interested in the technology after meeting Radiant Health Imaging founder Pam Ryerse. Gilliland has been a nurse for more than 30 years and said overtime she has developed a more holistic and preventative approach, and thermography has become a mission for her.

“I have four daughters; that’s eight breasts that I need to worry about,” she said. “And young women are kind of falling through the cracks.”

While insurance doesn’t cover thermography, Gilliland is quick to point out that mammograms for women younger than 40 years of age are not generally covered either.

“It’s about peace of mind. Knowing that nothing is growing, what is that worth?” she said.

The mission of the FDA is to kill the population off while profiting from the poisonous drugs they instruct cancer doctors to administer to patients.

Digital thermography works. Putting confidence in an opinion coming from a biased instition like the FDA is not smart. They’ve been suppressing cancer causes and cures for many years, so why should anyone trust their opinion about digital thermography?

Why isn’t there a demand that the insurance companies start to reimburse for this?

I have been screening both men and women with Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging in NYC and Westchester County for 5 years. The early detection has helped more than one reverse breast disease.

Though Thermography has been FDA approved for breast screening, conventional medicine does not endorse this technology because they have no treatment protocol for truly early stage breast cancer.Until they can see a tumor, they cannot biopsy it or remove it.
In the early stages, boosting the immune systems’ defense can halt and reverse the disease. The regression as well as the progression can be detected with Thermography.

The 47% false positive rates of mammogram in premenopausal women are bad enough, but the false negative rates in this age group are even more alarming. Women who have been screened with mammogram annually often have negative results but still have breast cancer. These women are not diagnosed until the disease is at stage four (metastisized). That is not early detection. Truly early detection is early enough to prevent damage from the disease and leave a woman intact.

All cancers are not harmful. Chemotherapy damages the immune system and should not be given to women unless they have active cancer. Mammograms and biopsies cannot distinguish between functional (harmful) and non-functional (harmless) cancers. Once cancer cells are identified, the non-harmful and harmful are all treated the same. Thermography can help with the determination as to whether a woman has a disease that needs treatment. A non-functional cancer will not show up on thermography, thus sparing unnecessary treatment.

Other countries such as Canada, England, Australia, and have endorsed Thermography for breast screening. It is time that we embrace this technology in the US.

We provide thermography services in the Houston, TX area as well as in Oregon and Washington. Most of our clients are women who are seeking out a safe way to monitor their health without concerns of radiation or compression. However, it is important to realize that thermography scans provide information for many conditions — thyroid imbalance, diabetes, stroke, heart issues, dental, liver/gallbladder, stomach and colon — the list is very long.

Last year I had an aha moment when I realized that more women die from heart disease, the silent killer, than from breast cancer each year. Many are affected with diabetes, too. In focusing on breast issues alone, we are missing the mark. Pink ribbons each October encourage us to focus on breast cancer but, when screening with a full body scan, thermography may detect other potentially serious conditions before they get too developed.

To FURTHER Charlie Hanna’s remarks about using natural means and eschewing the technology being debated here, I have this to say: I am a long time user of Ancient techniques to stay healthy and regain from any challenges to my health… When I was part of the Western medical system, a mammogram that I received in my mid-forties directed my doctors to get me back in two weeks to look at a spot they had seen. I gave up chocolate and coffee in those two weeks and there was nothing seen as before. There is more and more research being done showing that belief creates reality. No more just pollyana-ism, one usually must learn techniques to improve your visualization skills. I am one of thousands being ignored who would implore the governments of the world to encourage more education. Yet the industries deny these realities of many and prefer to collect their big bucks for their varied procedures to kill cells in order to heal.

As a clinical thermographer and holistic RN, I believe that thermography is a mechanism for early detection and an ideal way to screen, since it has been approved by the FDA as an adjunctive diagnostic tool for the detection of breast cancer(1982). I look forward to when this is available to everyone with or without insurance, regardless of ability to pay. Thermography is a sensible way to monitor your health and physiology.

For the largest network of Certified Clinical Thermographers see http://www.meditherm.com/locations.
No thermography is not a good detection tool for prostate malfunction because thermography works by differentiating levels of heat. The location of the prostate is in an area of large blood supply and heat so it is difficult to differentiate its heat from the heat of the surrounding tissue.

If you want your insurance to pay for it, you should have from your doctor a letter saying that you breast have nodules (I do not remember the word), you ask your insurance to send you a letter saying that they will pay, and stay after them, phone them and fight, you will be paid.
My thermography cost $135. and she also have my face done.

The idea of compressing the breasts (it is a bit tight), possibly damaging cells in the process, then exposing the radiation sensitive tissue to focused radiation always concerned me. I have been providing breast thermography screening in New York City for over five years now. What troubles me the most is that this technology is not new. It has been around for 38 years now and approved by the FDA.

When you realize that a mammogram can only detect a tumor that is 1 cm in size. And that it can take up to 7, or even 10 years for the tumor to grow to that size, it is evident that breast thermography is a viable solution for early detection. It is also believed by some scientist that radiation from mammograms is responsible for 10% of breast cancer in the first place.

You can find more information on my website and watch my video demonstration of the procedure at:

To all the women who have taken the time to write and find out where we can get this wonderful treatment I applaud you.Should we not be contacting the Pres. or someone in charge of medicine in the hospitals. Is there not a place to petition to change and shift what keeps changing.I am sorry but if there is a will there is a way lets find out and change this. Its our bodies and our lives and the bodies of our daughters and granddaughters nieces and aunts and so on.
Alos I live in Bushkill Pa.is there any place near me.I have another question I am unemployed and I need to purchase inexpensive health care anyone out there have anyone or any company they can recommend. We are united and this change is happening as we become more aware and we continue to ask for what we need and deserve to heal our bodies safly and effectivly.

Thermography Now has arrived in Jacksonville, Fl. Visit our web-site for more information. So glad to read that more and more women are opting for PREVENTION modalities.
