Monsanto: The World’s Poster Child for Corporate Manipulation and Deceit
Filed Under Big Agri, Food Toxins, Future of Food, GMO Foods | Leave a Comment
When Forbes magazine declared Monsanto as the Company of the Year for 2009, millions of surprised people were forced to reevaluate their opinions about a major corporation. Now they no longer trust Forbes.
Monsanto is one of the most despised corporations on earth. This is the first in a series of articles that expose their not-so-hidden dark side and how, if unrestrained, Monsanto could unleash a cataclysm. Indeed, it has already started… Read more

Why Has the FDA Allowed a Drug Marked ‘Not Safe for Use in Humans’ to Be Fed to Livestock Right Before Slaughter?
Filed Under Big Agri, Food Toxins, Future of Food | Leave a Comment
There’s a good chance you may be eating a livestock drug banned in 160 nations.
While researchers and scientists investigate the cause of our diabetes, obesity, asthma and ADHD epidemics, they should ask why the FDA approved a livestock drug banned in 160 nations and responsible for hyperactivity, muscle breakdown and 10 percent mortality in pigs, according to angry farmers who phoned the manufacturer.
The beta agonist ractopamine, a repartitioning agent that increases protein synthesis, was recruited for livestock use when researchers found the drug, used in asthma, made mice more muscular says Beef magazine. Read more

10 Reasons Why We Don’t Need GM Foods
Filed Under Big Agri, Future of Food, GMO Foods, Nutrition, Organic | Leave a Comment
Health Freedom Alliance has brought you many articles on the harmful effects of genetically modified crops but sometimes a list is helpful. The following are ten reasons why we don’t need them. Perhaps the most important reason is number 2. GM crops do not increase yields! The former US EPA and US FDA biotech specialist Dr Gurian-Sherman, concludes that when it comes to yield, “Traditional breeding outperforms genetic engineering hands down.”"Let’s be clear. As of this year [2008], there are no commercialized GM crops that inherently increase yield. Similarly, there are no GM crops on the market that were engineered to resist drought, reduce fertilizer pollution or save soil. Not one.”
If they are unable to increase yields is there any reason to put up with their harmful effects? Read more

Battle for the Soul of Organic Dairy Farmers Goes on Behind the Scenes
Filed Under Big Agri, Big Government, Future of Food | Leave a Comment
There is a battle going on in the White House for the very soul of the organic dairy movement - and possibly over the future of small family-operated dairy farms - and you don’t even know it. I’d like to think that I’m overstating things but no. At issue is an obscure rule in the USDA Organic label that requires “access to pasture” for organic dairy cows. Barry Estabrook, ex of Gourmet, lays it out for us:
In the early 2000s, virtually all of the nation’s organic dairy farmers - not to mention the millions of consumers willing to pay a premium for organic products - agreed that milk certified as organic by the United States Department of Agriculture had to come from cows that had access to pasture. International Paper and MeadWestvaco are planning to transform plantation forests of the southeastern U.S. by replacing native pine with genetically engineered eucalyptus
By adopting eucalyptus as a tree stock, the United States would simply be catching up with countries like Brazil, which has leveraged vast tree plantations in recent decades to pivot from a net wood importer to an exporter. While the South saw a rise in pine plantations during this time, pine cannot compete with eucalyptus for sheer growth rate, the company says. Read more

Consumers beware, Monsanto is a global multinational biotech-killer

By Vincent L. Guarisco
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall — think of it, ALWAYS.” –Mahatma Gandhi
I am a person with strong moral and ethical convictions and, as a proud parent who cares, I have read many child development books — most of them have a couple of things in common — they say it’s imperative to feed our kids a well-balanced diet and they strongly advise us to lovingly hug our children as often as we can. If this is true, then I’m no longer blurry about something. The mystery is revealed; Mr. Henry (kiss of death) Kissinger is a bad-ass example of “bad nutrition” and cruel “child neglect.”
Indeed, food and water and love’s aphorism is our common ground, a universal experience to be revealed. But let’s be real, it’s also a vulnerable weak point for some people to abuse in ways unimaginable. Aside from being kind and loving to one another, if we are what we consume, we’d better be much more selective in what we eat or drink. Especially in knowing we physically and mentally grow or disfigure from that digestive starting point. After all, destroy the body and the mind dies with it. Read more

A Comparison of the Effects of Three GM Corn Varieties on Mammalian Health
Filed Under Big Agri, Future of Food, GMO Foods | Leave a Comment
Abstract
We present for the first time a comparative analysis of blood and organ system data from trials with rats fed three main commercialized genetically modified (GM) maize (NK 603, MON 810, MON 863), which are present in food and feed in the world. NK 603 has been modified to be tolerant to the broad spectrum herbicide Roundup and thus contains residues of this formulation. MON 810 and MON 863 are engineered to synthesize two different Bt toxins used as insecticides. Approximately 60 different biochemical parameters were classified per organ and measured Read more

Plans for British ‘GM Food Revolution’ Come Under Fire
Filed Under Big Agri, Future of Food, GMO Foods | Leave a Comment
John Vidal
The vision of hi-tech British farming outlined this week by the UK government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir John Beddington, has been dismissed as unnecessary and potentially damaging by environmental groups and organic farmers.
In a speech to British farmers and the food industry on Wednesday, Beddington claimed there was a need for “a new and greener revolution” to increase food production. He urged that genetic modification (GM) of crops and nanotechnology needed to be mobilized if catastrophic food shortages were to be avoided in the face of rising temperatures and global population. Gates Foundation = Monsanto
Filed Under Big Agri | Leave a Comment
Gates Foundations = Monsanto now even more than ever. I should refine that statement. Gates Foundation = in favor of a pro-biotech, for-profit, unsustainable, scary, powerful approach to “feeding the world” (a.k.a. lining corporate pockets). And they have many ties to Monsanto including a brand new one. They just filled Rajiv Shah’s old job with Sam Dryden. Dryden’s resume is enough to make me throw up. Read more
