Eileen Danneman has uncovered document showing that the US Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius has extended the pandemic emergency to 2012 on March 5th, 2010, with little or no attention from the media.

Vitamin D Keeps Infections At Bay
Filed Under H1N1, Influenza, Natural Solutions, Nutrition, Swine Flu, Vitamin D | 12 Comments
There is no bigger proponent of Vitamin D then Health Freedom Alliance. When new studies come out we are the first to publish them. Adding to the multiple health benefits of vitamin D is the latest research, which indicates the nutrient is an effective tool in building up the immune system to help ward off viruses and other infections.
Lead author of the research, Professor Carsten Geisler, from the Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen stated, “We knew vitamin D was important for calcium absorption and fighting diseases such as cancer and multiple sclerosis – but we didn’t realize how crucial it was for activating the immune system.” Read more

Influenza Vaccine Has No Effect In Elderly
Filed Under Big Government, Big Pharma, Influenza, Vaccines | 1 Comment
Late last year HFA published a study from the Mayo Clinic showing flu shots in children actually increased the likelihood of hospitalization. Now a new study is stating that flu shots in the elderly mostly likely have no health benefits at all.
There is no evidence to support the contention that the influenza vaccine administered to the over 65s is of any more use than opening the windows and washing hands, a new study from the Cochrane Collaboration claims.
The institute has concluded from the studies that there is no clear evidence to suggest that the flu jab offers any more protection than cheaper, hygiene-based methods such as hand-washing. The institute has now selected the best 75 of the available studies for this latest review of the evidence. While conceding that the studies are not of the best research quality, it concludes there is little evidence to suggest that the flu vaccine has any real effect. Read more

Ukraine H1N1 D225G in North Carolina
Filed Under Pandemic, Ukraine | Leave a Comment
The CDC has released another series of H1N1 sequences at GISAID. Included was A/North Carolina/53/2009 which has D225G. Details on this patient were not provided, but the sample was collected in mid-October when there was an H1N1 outbreak at Duke Medical Center. At least four patients had H1N1 with H274Y. Those sequences were also released at GISAID and 5 sequences had H274Y as well as the HA marker Y233H. In addition, three of the sequences had D225G or D225N. At least three of the patients died, so it is likely that some or all had D225G/N, as well as H274Y. Read more

After staying low for awhile, the number of H1N1 cases is slowly climbing again, said Dr. Zack Moore, an epidemiologist with the N.C. Division of Public Health.
“We’re starting to see an upswing on college campuses in the last week or two,” Moore said.
“(The first wave) was a very big wave, and it definitely affected students and young people more than the seasonal flu,” Moore said. Read more

The latest data from the North Carolina website indicates the frequency of samples testing positive for H1N1 has risen to 25% (see Figure 2) from a low of 8% in December. The frequency has not been at 25% since mid-November. This clear upswing in H1N1 detection is consistent with recent comments on increases on college campuses in North Carolina and reports of more severe cases at UNC Medical Center at Chapel Hill. This rise signals the start of wave three. Read more

U.S. health officials have asked parents to get their children under 10 years of age fully vaccinated against the A/H1N1 flu virus as another wave of strike might be coming soon.
Hawaii state health department said on Tuesday that, in Hawaii and a number of other states, there are many children who have not received their second dose, and that there are still many children who have not been vaccinated against the A/H1N1 at all. Read more

Doctors at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center are on high alert tonight after a spike in the number of children with flu-like symptoms. Right now, they believe all cases to be the novel H1N1 swine flu virus.
“Over the past 3 weeks or so, we’ve had about 17 or 18 admissions to Le Bonheur with confirmed influenza. I should say that we believe all or almost all of these will prove to be the novel H1N1 influenza virus.” Read more

Spike In US Pneumonia and Influenza Deaths
Filed Under Pandemic | 15 Comments
The CDC Week 3 influenza report has been released and once again there were no reported cases of seasonal influenza A. 2 cases of influenza B were reported and the vast majority of cases (98%) were pandemic H1N1, indicating seasonal influenza A has been crowded out in the US. The frequency of influenza detection has risen slightly and is at the highest level since week 50, signaling the end of the fall wave and the beginning of a winter wave. However, although the detection rate rose slightly, the P&I deaths spiked higher and are now well above the epidemic threshold and as high as it has been since the peak of the 2008/2009 season.
